October 23
As a family medical caregiver I was asked to put my faith in a lot of things. The knowledge of our medical care team. Medicines that were both dangerous and life-saving. Twenty years of favorable results for the surgeries performed on Leah’s heart. The thing I came to realize while listening to the staff during rounds every morning, is that medical care is as much art as science. Each patient is unique in their makeup and responds differently to treatments as a result.
Does it shake your faith in your care team when they can’t explain why something has happened? To some degree that is understandable. But I want to point out that while doctors often do life-saving work, they are not our Creator God. He has the final say over life and death.
Our faith in God can remain strong and unshaken in the midst of the worst trials. He is the one who knit you together in your mother’s womb. He has numbered the hairs on your head. He sent his son to die as a propitiation for your sins according to his promises. You can find a whole list how God provided for His people in Hebrews 11.
You may not always see the myriad ways God is working in your life. Hold fast, rest in Him, and let Him work everything for good in His timing. Keep the faith.
Prayer for today:
Heavenly Father, it humbles me to see how you have taken care of your children throughout the Bible. Help me to put my faith in you though I may be impatient waiting for answers to my prayers. I thank you for your faithfulness. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
