November 8
As caregivers, we often have lists full of plans for the future. Plans for if a surgery goes ahead. Plans for if we are not able to pay a bill. Plans for meals to prepare for the holidays. We try to account for all contingencies ahead of time and when things go off our well-designed, color coded, carbon copied plans, we feel our control slipping away.
Here is the thing…you never had control. You don’t even have the promise of tomorrow. It was a crafty lie from the enemy that convinced you that all your knowledge and planning could create the perfect life here on earth. Look how well that has been going since the days of Eden.
But I have wonderful news! By saying “if the Lord wills” you are not doing so out of resignation, but trust. Placing your life in God’s capable hands is putting yourself in alignment with him. It is both humbling and freeing to surrender your cares to God—it opens you up to act on the nudging of the Holy Spirit.
Prayer for today:
Heavenly Father, I surrender my life and plans to you today. When I feel the pressure to clutch at control, remind me to find rest in your timing, your will for my life. Fill me with your peace about the future. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
