Image of Isaiah 40: 28

Caregiving has a way of exposing our limits. There are days our bodies ache, our patience is worn thin, and our hearts are heavy with decisions that no one else sees. In these moments, it is wonderful to look on scriptures such as these and remember that God does not grow weary, even when we do.

Isaiah wrote these words to comfort Israel during their Babylonian captivity. They may have begun to wonder if God would keep his promises after they were taken from their ancestral home. No doubt afraid, angry, and confused, God’s people are called to remember that the LORD is the everlasting God, their Creator. His ways are not their ways. And God had knew what would happen.

Unlike us, God does not reach the end of his strength. He is not depleted by the demands of caring for another person. He does not wonder what he will do when his energy is gone. He would not grow tired waiting to bring his plan for Israel to fruition.

If you are feeling burdened by the load you carry, turn to the Lord, who is able to help us run the race and not grow weary. Put your trust the One who will help you walk and not faint. Don’t let your world shrink to medications, appointments, and long nights, but lift your eyes to the God who created the heavens and the earth. By his strength you can mount up with wings like eagles.

Prayer for today:

Heavenly Father, I stand in awe of the comfort you offer your people. Jesus said that his yoke is easy and his burden is light. Help me to find rest in you today and everyday. You alone are my strength and my shield. I put my hope in you. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
