January 1
Have you ever noticed how many predictions are made every New Year? Newscasters all throw in their two cents about sports, finances and politics. It brought to mind this word from Jeremiah. These people speak visions of their own minds, not the Word of God, and we are reminded that we must be careful who we listen to.
It probably hasn’t escaped your notice that the last few years have been divisive in our country. Listening to news from either end of the political spectrum will show you that prophecies of the future are being used to sway people’s allegiance. The predictions are far from accurate and fear is being whipped up all while promising peace and security if only you follow their chosen leader.
Jeremiah reminds us that God alone rules the present and the future. We do not need to be swayed with the winds of competing politicos, new age horoscopes, or biased media executives this New Year. We can instead stand firm on our Rock of Ages. By following the commandments God has given us we will not follow our hearts into destruction, and the slippery paths of darkness will not be under our feet because He is a light unto our path.
Prayer for today:
Heavenly Father, I thank you for your everlasting faithfulness. You truly are the rock upon which I can stand. Give me discernment to know when the winds of culture are trying to push me toward unholiness. Hold me fast to your side because you alone offer perfect peace, everlasting hope, and abundant joy. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
