November 23
As Thanksgiving approaches, my heart is full of the blessings God has woven into my life. I already shared about my thanks for the word of God and for salvation through Jesus Christ. Today, I am thankful for my spouse.
I always try to provide devotionals with an application to different parts of the caregiver’s journey. It is impossible for me to imagine how my own story would differ without my husband by my side. He was the first person I told about our daughter’s diagnosis. He was with me at the first cardiologist appointment. He worked long hours supporting our family so I could stay home (or in the hospital) with our children. He held my hand when we said goodbye to our daughter this side of heaven. He is still with me, remembering with me, and supporting this ministry.
This verse in Genesis reminds us that marriage is not an accident, but an intentional design between a man and a woman. When functioning properly, they lift each other up before God, comfort each other in times of trial, and celebrate God’s blessings together. That is truly something for which we can be thankful.
This devotional may hit a little differently for those of you who are caregivers for your spouse. Know that my prayers are with you. It must be very difficult for you to not have your partner bring strength and support into your relationship any longer. While you are providing care, I pray the Holy Spirit fills you with joy and peace to sustain you. You do not walk alone.
Prayer for today:
Heavenly Father, thank you for the beauty of your creation, including marriage. Bless my spouse today and fill him with your joy. Help me be a good partner through good times and bad, sickness and in health. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
