When I think of caregiving, my mind first pictures people that provide full-time, in-home care. But there are many caregivers that do not fit into this category. What ways are they able to share what they have?

I hope that if you are a part-time caregiver you do not feel as though you can’t be a vital part of this community. Your good work is needed too! So we are all on the same page, I am listing a few of the many scenarios that may make someone a part-time caregiver:

  • Family members are trading caregiving duties every few months

  • Your own health prevents caring full-time

  • Medical care requires loved one stay in a nursing facility

  • You are in charge of administrative needs

  • Your loved one is a long distance from you and you help how you can

All of these are valid, necessary, and appreciated! Much like spiritual gifts, each believer has a different role that is to be used for the benefit of the body. Some of us sacrifice our time, some money, and others open their home. Whatever role we play, we should work heartily, as for the Lord, and not as for men (Col. 3:23).

It is also important to remember that the tasks set before us today may not be the same as tomorrow. Situations change and we cannot plan for everything. Keep your eyes on God in all things and follow where he leads you. “Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen” (Hebrews 13:20-21).

Prayer for today:

Heavenly Father, I want to live a life that brings praise and honor to your name. Help me see opportunities to show hospitality, provide support through prayer, and do good while caregiving. May I do all this with joy in my heart as a willing sacrifice to you. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
