Raise your hand if you still remember the song “The Wise Man Built His House upon the Rock?” I admit it has been a minute since I have had little kids underfoot. But I still remember all of the wonderful songs (and hand motions) that I would sing when my kiddos were little. This song was always a favorite—probably because of the ‘crash’ the kids got to act out at the end.

Sometimes we need to revisit some of the basics of our faith. As adults we get caught up in difficult situations and we forget the simple truths we learned as children. Today, that is that we are to make God our foundation, our rock.

If we claim to be Christians we have to ask ourselves what we have built our life around or on. When we hear the words of God and don’t do them, make his will first in our lives, we have not actually built our lives on him—we are the foolish man building his house on sand. When the storm comes and the sand shifts, we drift with the tides.

Are your loyalties to God or to the shifting sands of culture? I cannot claim that the storm won’t come if you follow Jesus, but I will claim that your foundation will not be shaken because you built your house on the God that is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Prayer for today:

Heavenly Father, thank you for reminding me to build my life around you alone. Forgive me for the times I have allowed myself to put other things at the center of my life. Help me to do the things you tell me to do in your Word. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
