November 21
Have you ever wondered where your instruction manual is for caregiving? Maybe the one for raising children or for your marriage? You already have it at your fingertips. The Word of God is able to tell you the things that you need to do as an individual so that you will know how to act in all circumstances.
As we countdown the last week to Thanksgiving, I want to think about the things for which I am thankful. I am starting with the Bible— the original manual that tells us who we are, why we are on this planet, and how we are are to live.
If you have never read Romans 12, I encourage you to do so. You could easily make a month long study on that chapter alone. Here are some highlights:
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect (v. 2)
For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another (v. 4)
Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer (v. 12)
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good (v. 21)
How can you not be encouraged with this kind of instruction? It is clear about what marks a true Christian. May we all be thankful today for this guidance and apply it to our caregiving, our relationships, and in our churches.
Prayer for today:
Heavenly Father, I thank you for your holy Word. Help me to live as you tell my to so that I may bring glory to your name. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
