When it comes to family caregiving, we were very blessed. We lived very close to the hospital, had family ready and willing to help care for my healthy kids, and we never went without our basic needs being met. Despite these benefits there was still conflict.
You would think that with this stable setup there would be no cause for arguments. But we are people and people are not perfect. The stress of family caregiving puts a magnifying glass on the (hopefully) small imperfections that we have yet to fix.
With hindsight I can see that when circumstances brought things to a boiling point, my response was within my control and needn’t boil over. While my reactions may have been deemed normal by the world, they were not an example of the fruit of the Spirit. It is with regret that I admit that my behavior was not always a reflection of the one I called Lord.
“This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.” James 3:15-18
Draw nearer to God and he will show you where you need to purify your heart. Repent your sinful behaviors and ask forgiveness from those with whom you have quarreled. Remember that creating a home that is healing for your loved one begins with the Peace of God.
Prayer for today:
Heavenly Father, I praise your holy name. Help me draw nearer to you so that I may not fall into the temptation of sinful behaviors. And help me forgive others as you have forgiven me. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
