There are times as a family caregiver that we feel stuck. We don’t know which way is forward, we feel cornered by impossible situations, and we wonder when the pressure will be alleviated. Then fear makes us wonder if God is still working in our lives.
Consider how Moses led his people out of bondage in Egypt. God directed them to travel by way of the wilderness. This was to avoid the Philistines, see war, and return to captivity in Egypt out of fear. God surrounded Israel by day with a pillar of cloud and by night with a pillar of fire for light. But when they came to the Red Sea, and saw Pharaoh in pursuit, the people panicked. They accused Moses of leading them all to their death.
In that moment of fear the Israelites forgot all of the miracles that God had already worked for them. They could only see their current situation—penned in by Pharaoh from behind and the sea in front. Perhaps that is you today. You have let fear convince you that there is no path to follow.
Psalm 77 reminds us that we are to seek the Lord in our trouble. His way forward may be through the great waters where there is no path yet. Continue to call out to him in prayer and wait for the call of the Shepherd to lead you where he wants you to go. “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD.” (Isaiah 55:8) Don’t let fear convince you that God is not able to work in your situation. He is still the God who makes a way where there seems to be no way.
Prayer for today:
Heavenly Father, thank you for protecting me from dangers I haven’t considered and making a way for me in the wilderness. I know your ways are higher than my ways. I trust in you to lead me where I need to go. Thy will be done in my life today. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
