Family caregiving is the sort of activity that will leave you feeling drained physically, tired emotionally, and even spiritually empty. You give so much of yourself by pouring out love and care on your loved one that you may forget to seek renewal for yourself. God offers strength that doesn’t run out.

I wish I had learned this earlier. I’ll rephrase that—I knew it in my mind, but not in my heart. It is very easy to have knowledge about the things God can do—his benefits— without an understanding of how he is already working. My trials got in the way of my walk with my redeemer and I relied on myself, only to be emptied out again and again.

Times of struggle are the perfect opportunity to draw nearer to God. Let His power and strength raise you above the weight of exhaustion and discouragement. Give Him a chance to fill your cup to overflowing once again (Psalm 23:5) The patient Shepherd, the restorer of your soul, is by your side no matter the circumstances. You will find Him easily when you spend time in the word and in prayer.

Every time you turn to God’s word, you are reading something alive and active. You receive truths about who God is and you separate out the lies you have believed. Even a few minutes a day will bring restoration and healing in your life. Then it will be easy to praise God for his goodness, his steadfast love, and his healing power. Seek him out, He is waiting for you.

Prayer for today:

Heavenly Father, thank you for being an ever present help in my life. Renew my spirit today with your peace and joy so that I can let go of the fatigue I am feeling. Let the truth of your living word give me hope for the future. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
