We do not naturally drift toward holiness. The Bible shows this clearly from the time of the original sin. Man has repeatedly moved away from the LORD to follow the myriad gods of other nations, as well as his own desires. Even today, with the help of the Holy Spirit, we must be intentional in our efforts to walk according to God’s commandments.

Peter reminded us that this will be the case. He stated that we will hear false prophets and false teachers who will bring destructive heresies into the faith. They will try to exploit us because of their greed and they will be ignorant about God, twisting the scriptures.

Knowing this, we are to be cautious. Stay in the Word daily. Pray continually. Meditate on the scripture and hide it in your heart. Continue to grow in the knowledge of the Lord as you walk through life’s trials alongside him. And allow the Holy Spirit to fill you with wisdom and discernment.

Prayer for today:

Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us your word to live by. Help me distinguish truth from lie so that I am able to follow your commandments and avoid false teachings. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
