Have you ever tried to find the best lighting for a room? There are a lot of things to consider, such as the room’s use, the size of the room, and what lighting is currently in place. Designers will often tell you to have light set at three different heights to account for different needs. In contrast, the average Jewish home in Jesus’ day usually had one small oil lamp that would be placed on a stand to give maximum lighting to the room.

The lamp had to be put in a place and at a height that it would be able to shine light into the dark corners of the room. A person would not put out the lamp only to cover it with a basket, or else they would have no light. In the same way, our faith should be uncovered so that we may shine the light of the Messiah into the dark places on this earth.

As a caregiver you may feel you don’t have the opportunity to shine your faith before others. But I want to remind you that you can start small in your own home, with your own family and the loved one in your care. Think also about the doctors, neighbors, and therapists with whom you interact regularly. Even lengthy telephone calls with insurance or medical suppliers are opportunities to show that you are salt and light.

Wherever you go, whatever you do, take the light of the Lord with you. In this way you will stand out in a chaotic and sinful world. You will show people the hope you have within you, and in doing this, you will bring glory to our Father in heaven.

Prayer for today:

Heavenly Father, I thank you for giving me peace and joy through the salvation I have through your son, Jesus. Help me to share the light you offer to those I meet everyday. Use my testimony to plant seeds of faith in those whom the Holy Spirit has prepared to receive the good news. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
