January 7
To whom do you go in times of trouble? Most people would say they call a trusted friend or family member. Maybe a spouse or pastor comes to mind. Hopefully you know that you can take your burden to the Lord, who waits for you to lean on him for strength and protection.
Psalm 28 is a prayer from David to the LORD in a time of unspecified trouble. He is pleading for God to hear his cries and to be his shield from evildoers. As a family caregiver, you may not feel that evil is at work in your life, but you likely feel the need for strength when your own body is tired, protection from the stress that builds with new diagnoses, or hope when the day is bleak.
Take David’s example and cry out to God when your heart hurts and spirit is weak. Thank him with praise that he is a God that provides refuge when his people are afraid. He is the Good Shepherd who is faithful to supply your needs and lead you in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Prayer for today:
Heavenly Father, teach me your paths. I know there is no need to fear tomorrow when I follow you. Help me to see your goodness and mercy at work in my life. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
