January 6
The widow’s offering illustrates to us the generous nature we should have as believers. Giving to the Lord cost the widow something. While the rich gave money out of their abundance the woman gave just two small coins. That small amount was of greater importance because of her poverty and need.
Family caregivers live in this type of space every day. We continually offer more to our loved one when we have little energy, little time, and perhaps little monetary resources. Much of what you give is unseen and unmeasured. It doesn’t look impressive to the eyes of the world, but your quiet work is seen by God.
Today, my encouragement to you is to continue to serve with gladness and joy, knowing that you are giving all that you have, working diligently unto the Lord and not unto men. Do not worry about the rewards here on earth where they may be destroyed, but lay up your treasure in heaven.
Prayer for today:
Heavenly Father, thank you for the many blessings in my life. Help me to not grow weary in doing good, sowing from the Spirit and not from selfish ambition or conceit. Let me see with bountiful eyes that I may bless those who are poor in health, wealth, or spirit. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
