Image of Joshua 4:20-22

I have a journal amongst my daughter’s belongings. Actually, I have several journals for her that are filled with daily stats such as oxygen saturations, fluid intake, etc., but the one I’m writing about has a special purpose. This one, with its scratched blue cover that makes it look ready for the trashcan, holds the most precious information of all. Inside are the dates when I could see God providing for our family in our darkest moments.

Here are some things I recorded (without details since I didn’t ask my friends first if I could use their names) :

  1. We didn’t have money to pay for groceries and we found that someone sent us a gift card for Walmart.

  2. I needed encouragement after a traumatic experience in the PICU and it came from an unexpected visitor who had a hug and the right things to say.

  3. We transferred to a different hospital where we didn’t know anyone and someone arranged to have their friend meet with us because we were both away from home at the same time.

It was, and still is, important for me to remember these moments. Each is a memory stone, like the ones Joshua was instructed by God to leave, that mark the times God provided for my family during hard times. I can look back on them and see Him working things together, often before I even asked for help in my prayers.

Find a way to record the things you see God doing. You may prefer marking something on the calendar or in the margin of your Bible. Don’t forget to share these moments because they help all of us to see light in the darkness.

Prayer for today:

Heavenly Father, thank you for the ways you are working in my life. I am humbled by the love you pour out on me when I don’t deserve it. Continue to give me your strength as I walk the way you lead and give me opportunities to share with others your mighty works in my life. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
