January 5
In the darkest, most taxing moments of caregiving, you may feel hope dwindling. Your mind is full of your daily tasks and frustrations. In your exhaustion you may forget all that God has done for you.
The words Peter offered these ancient believers, who were scattered in Roman influenced countries, can help you too. They were being persecuted for their faith and they needed to be reminded of the hope found in their salvation.
Peter continues for several verses describing the reassurance you can find in the scripture as a Christian. You have the ability to look back through the Old Testament and see God working through every situation. He knew that hope does not depend on how your day went. It does not hinge on whether or not you felt strong, accomplished, guilty, or persecuted. You need not fear tomorrow because God will strengthen you. He will help you. He will hold you with his righteous right hand.
One day everyone will stand before God—some to spend eternity in his presence and others for judgment. Be joyful knowing that Jesus’ blood covers sins and you have no need to fear anything that may happen here on earth as you await the imperishable, undefiled, and unfading inheritance being kept in heaven for you.
Prayer for today:
Heavenly Father, I thank you for being a merciful God. You offer me hope when I don’t deserve it and walk beside me through my trials. Help me to know you better while I await my inheritance in heaven with you. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
